Pat Your Boat Day
Although the number of members who participated in this event was small, the enthusiasm for renewed camaraderie and boating was large. Fifteen of our members revived a foregone tradition of "Pat Your Boat Day' on Saturday February 21st. We also welcomed new members, Tom and Brenda to the club. I personally now remember Tom from my racing days decades ago.
We were treated to a delicious and sustaining meal at the newly opened restaurant "Phil and Rosie's Cafe" directly across from LCYC. And to top it off, many of us are looking forward to the delicious homemade soup and baked goods this summer. Our sailing friend will be delighted to be able to easily walk to the closest restaurant to enjoy an excellent selection.

After catching up with each other over lunch, the members returned to the LCYC clubhouse to hear from Mike at the new Grand Harbour Marina. Mike responded to all of our inquiries, and though many procedures were still in the planning stage, we felt a warm glow of partnership kindle with the new marina owners and staff. Renovations are underway in all aspects of the facility and will be completed for the boating season. Yes, there will be a new restaurant, new mechanical staff and upgraded facilities. Standby for some announcements that will enhance your enjoyment of the area.
It was helpful that our soon-to-be commodore, Peter Stapper, was present to continue to work with Mike and the owners to address the concerns that have built up over the last few years. Items discussed were pump out fees, use of the marina pool, the non-working mast crane, use of the entrance to the harbour wall for visiting boats, and conditions for working on our boats in the yard. You will need to be patient as the executive coordinates with the marina about the details.
Members were able to enter the yard to view their boats, knock off snow from their tarps, or adjust lines before and after the event.
With the success of this event, it is hoped that this tradition will be continued for years to come. If this is added to the social calendar, perhaps more members will be able to attend in the future.
And thank you, Les, for shovelling the walkway to the club. Larry's newly installed lock worked perfectly. Remember to press "enter" after the 3 magic numbers.
